Ask Coach Jason

Somethings A Bit Stinky Here

Hi Coach Jason! I love your advice and I hope you can help me out. I have been going out with this guy for about 4 months now. We see each other all the time (about twice a week). Before we started dating he had been in another relationship for over 3 years. Last month he said that he was gonna ask me to be his girlfriend, but since then he hasn’t said a word. What’s going on? Why hasn’t he said anything yet? Should I move on? I don’t want to be the one to bring it up because I’m afraid he will just ask me out of guilt. I want it to be his decision to ask me officially on his own.

Answer I’ve never heard of anyone announcing their intentions to ask another person for exclusivity and then not following up. Why didn’t he just say, “Hey, I’d like us to be in an exclusive relationship?” Something’s a bit stinky and it’s not the old cheese in my fridge. If you truly want to be in a relationship with this man then you need to be straight with him and share your feelings and concerns. I understand that you want him to bring it up, but that's like wanting to win the lottery but never buying a ticket. The worst thing that can happen is he says "no". It might sting a bit, but at least you will have your answer and then you can move on. Or, he might say 'yes'! Anytime you want something in life you need to take the bull by the horns and go for it!
